Jewelry Care
How to Care for Sterling Silver Jewelry:
Sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver and 7.5% other metals, typically copper. Our jewelry is primarily made from sterling silver allowing for a more durable wearing experience than just pure silver. Sterling silver jewelry maintains its shine the more you wear it, however it will tarnish while not being worn. There are several ways to prevent tarnish and clean your sterling silver jewelry if it does tarnish.
- Clean your sterling silver jewelry often with a sterling polishing cloth
- You can also clean your sterling silver jewelry with equal parts mild dish soap and water in a bowl, be sure to rinse thoroughly and dry completely with a soft cloth before storing or wearing
- Store your jewelry in an air tight container or zip lock bag with the excess air removed away from sunlight and moisture
- Avoid exposing your sterling silver jewelry to harsh chemicals or extreme heat or cold
- Avoid wearing your jewelry while bathing, swimming or applying lotions and perfumes
- You can also purchase anti tarnish bags to store your jewelry in
If your sterling silver jewelry item contains a stone it is important to note that not adhering to the above instructions can damage or alter the stone. While most stones are durable and hard wearing, continued exposure to water, chemicals, heat, cold, lotions and perfumes will damage that stone and could affect the integrity of your jewelry.
How to Care for Copper Jewelry:
Copper will tarnish quickly if not polished regularly, thankfully it is easy to clean by following the steps below. Copper will be more shiny the more you wear it but please be aware copper will sometimes cause a green tone interaction for some people when in contact with the skin, this is not harmful, and should wash off with soap and water.
